Application for Cemetery Salesperson

Thank you for your interest in licensure as a California Cemetery and Funeral Bureau (CFB) Cemetery Salesperson!

  • This application is for initial licensure for a Cemetery Salesperson and is valid only to the broker and the location for which this license is to be issued.

Cemetery Salesperson Statutory Fees

  • $60 Initial Filing Fee (due upon completion of this application)
  • $50 Renewal Fee (due annually by June 30)
  • $75 Delinquent Renewal (assessed July 1 if not renewed)

Are you eligible to apply online?

  • You must be employed by a licensed cemetery broker. You can check the license status of your broker here by entering the name of the broker in the BUSINESS NAME section.
  • You must not have committed any acts or crimes constituting grounds for denial of licensure under Business and Professions Code section 480.

To be eligible to apply for licensure as a cemetery salesperson, you must meet the following requirements:

  • All cemetery salesperson licenses expire on June 30 of each year.
  • You have the option of holding the effective date of an eligible license until July 1.
  • This application will not transfer your license to another broker or location. You must complete and submit a Request for Change of Cemetery Salesperson License.

If you reside in California, you are required to complete the Request for Live Scan Service and submit fingerprints electronically via Live Scan. For residents outside California, you must submit  manual fingerprint cards or ‘hard cards’ to the CFB directly.

Have you ever served in the United States Military? If yes, you may qualify for expedited processing of your application. Any experience or education received while serving in the military may be eligible to be applied towards licensure requirements. While responding is optional, you must respond to the question to qualify.
Have you ever been issued a license by the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau?
Which method did you submit your Live Scan/Fingerprints to the CFB?
Have you ever had any professional or vocational license or registration denied, suspended, revoked, placed on probation or other disciplinary action taken by this or any other governmental authority in this state or any other state, or any foreign country?

Business and Professions Code section 135.4 provides that the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau must expedite, and may assist, the initial licensure process for certain applicants described below. 

  • You were admitted to the United States as a refugee pursuant to section 1157 of title 8 of the United States Code;
  • You were granted asylum by the Secretary of Homeland Security or the United States Attorney General pursuant to section 1158 of title 8 of the United States Code; or,
  • You have a special immigrant visa and were granted a status pursuant to section 1244 of Public Law 110-181, Public Law 109-163, or section 602(b) of title VI of division F of Public Law 111-8, relating to Iraqi and Afghan translators/interpreters or those who worked for or on behalf of the United States government.

A salesperson license entitles you to act as a cemetery salesperson for the broker named on this application at the address shown. It does not entitle you to work for any other broker or any other office of your employing broker.

Please allow 30 days for CFB to review your application. Once a license is issued, or if any deficiencies are identified, you will be notified via the email provided.
